Some people like to use the 2 insert wiper blade, meaning there are two rubber wipers per blade with a total of 4 wipers. This might seem like a great idea, but it works no better than a conventional 2 blade system does.
Using a higher priced blade made for snow or mud….yes, those blades are much better and last longer than a regular windshield wiper blade will BUT they are not as readily available as just a standard blade will be.
The brand name ANCO is probably one of the best blades around, at least in my professional opinion…I have been an auto mechanic for 12 years.
What works best? Keep your windshield clean and free of dirt and bugs. A clean windshield will allow the wiper blades to stay in contact with the glass better but it is also easier on the rubber blade as well which will allow them to last longer.
I also recommend using RAIN X in your windshield washer fluid. This product will help keeep rain from pooling on your glass but will also allow the wiper blades to slide across the glass with less friction and less friction means longer life and better performance.
You can buy RAIN X at just about any auto parts store as well as ANCO wiper blades. If you can buy a snow or mud blade, do it you will like the performance although the cost is about twice as much as regular blades but they should last twice as long too.

Answer by Caveman I recommend using the factory replacement inserts. The aftermarket blades have a tendency to not conform properly across the windshield. Aftermarket size is 22 left side 20 right side.The factory inserts are usually about 15.00 for the pair over the dealer parts counter- and they usually install them for you for free. I normally replace mine every 6 months or so. Part number for the inserts is 61-61-0-154-440 they can be purchased from www.getbmwparts for less then 4.00 each.

Question by Justin: Can a windshield repair kit fix a crack that has spread to the top of my windshield?
I woke up this morning to a crack in my windshield that was roughly 4 inches long. During my commute to school (which is about 50 minutes) the crack spread from 4 to 6 inches and reached to top of my windshield. Is this still fixable with a repair kit or do I need to take it to a shop?

I have replaced the wiper blades 4 times and have used different blades each time. I have used Anco, Trico , and since i work for a Ford dealer i have used OE Ford blades. I have had no luck getting good wiper blade usage. Is it possible that the wiper arm s are pressed to tight against the windshield?

This is for a wiper aboard a ship. The original holders are flat aluminum and are 31″ long. The rubber inserts have dry rotted over the years. A bulk roll of wiper blade material would be ideal. I just can’t find any place that sells this rubber insert material in bulk.
These replacement blades are for a 31″ wiper. Your run of the mill recreational boater supply stores have all been looked at and don’t offer this type of item. This will have to be a large distributor of custom manufactured goods.
